From 2000 to 2002 Kurt Bodewig was Federal Minister for Transport, Building and Housing in Germany. As Vice-Chairman of the Bundestags-committee on the Affairs of the European Union he deals day by day with topics of European and International politics. Kurt Bodewig keeps to themes like Transport but now in European issues, current important concerns for him are the European Integration and the European Energy Strategies for security and sustainability.
He is Chairman of the Board of the Baltic Sea Forum. This association pursue the poltitical, economic and cultural exchange between Countries around the Baltic Sea. Furthermore his view is aimed to this region in his functions as member of the Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference (BSPC) and as Chairman of the board of trustees of the German-Lithuanian Forum. In the BSPC he is committed as Vice-Chairman of the Working Group on Energy and Climate Change.
For an integrated European Maritime Policy he stands for in his position as EU Maritime Ambassador of the EU-Commission Fisheries and Maritime Affairs.
Kurt Bodewig is Member in a couple of bi- and multileteral parliamentary organisations like the NATO Parliamentary Assembly or the Conference of Community and European Affairs Committees of Parliaments of the European Union (COSAC) and the European Security and Defence Assembly (Assembly of WEU).
Before he became Member of the German Bundestag, Kurt Bodewig was Head of Department of the North-Rhine/Westphalia branch of the German Trade Union Confederation (DGB). He was born in Rheinberg, Germany.
